I stayed at the Grand Mercure with my family in a two bedroom suite for 8 nights in April 2024. LOCATION: Fantastic location, connected to the Yongsan Train Station and Ipark Mall. Yongsan does not seem to be a popular location for tourists, but I believe this will soon change. Being able to walk every morning to a major subway and train station in Korea, centrally located no more than 1 transfer away from every major part of Seoul. The Ipark Mall has 4 different malls, including one 6 floor with just restaurants with every type of cuisine. ROOM: Spacious, clean, and modern room. Our room had a full kitchen with full size refrigerator and freezer, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher. All of these things came in handy with our 1 year old. Plenty of space for the family with the living room, kitchen, dining area, and two bedrooms and bathrooms. AMENITIES: Amazing gym/sauna/pool facilities in the hotel for guests to access. FOOD: Hotel lacks only in this category. But I believe because of it's close proximity to Ipark Mall, Yongsan Station, and restaurants in the building of Novotel and Ibis which are connected, there are plenty of great options to choose from. Thank you to all the staff of Grand Mercure that made our stay a great one. Next time I visit Seoul, there is no question where I will stay.

This is our second stay in the past year. The service is simply outstanding. It always feels like home. Our son was unwell and vomited at 10pm. Housekeeping wasn’t available then. A hotel staff, Ms Anne Ji, came knocking on our door, with tissue, wet wipes and a trash bag in hand. She clean the huge mess by hand with no gloves She wasn’t afraid to get dirty and cleaned up the room so throughly. This is a 5-star establishment and the service is a true reflection of it.

It is an experience that we would prefer not to repeat

During our 12-day stay at this hotel, we informed the front desk that we were accompanied by a child and required a late check-out at 2 PM because our return flight to Tokyo was in the evening. However, despite having a silver membership status with Accor, we were told to check out at noon. It appears that being an Accor member does not provide any privileges or benefits here. While the membership does grant access to a late check-out option, the decision ultimately rests with the discretion of the reception staff on duty that day. The room is comfortable, but the walls do not block out noise well. We experienced disturbances from the room above us. It is not recommended to choose the Han-River view as the promoted river view is just a construction site. The air-conditioning did not cool the room properly, and even the maximum setting maintained the temperature at 23 degrees Celsius. We're not sure how the temperature is like during the summer. In term of service, there practical no service we experience this time. So we can't share much feedback on their service. Our decision to stay here primarily hinges on the location, which we consider to be crucial. We expected there to be a connecting bridge to Yongsan station like the Novotel and Ibis, but unfortunately, we were mistaken. To get to the station, we must traverse a lengthy walk of around 7-10 minutes. For the same rate, JW Marriot clearly provides a better value of money spent and service quality.

Please note that the connecting bridge connects Seoul Dragon City from the Novotel side only to Yongsan station. Discriminatory Policies at Grand Mercure Ambassador Hotel

I am utterly disgusted by the discriminatory policies enforced at the Grand Mercure Ambassador Hotel in Seoul. Despite being advertised as a luxurious 5-star hotel with amenities such as a pool, sauna, and fitness club, access to these facilities is denied to individuals with tattoos. As a paying guest, I was appalled to discover that I was being discriminated against simply because of my body art. This blatant discrimination and harassment left me feeling humiliated and degraded. Never in my life have I experienced such injustice, especially in a country like South Korea that prides itself on democracy and progress. It is outrageous that a hotel in a democratic country would enforce such archaic and discriminatory policies. This is not 19th-century Japan or North Korea; there is no justification for such discriminatory treatment. I paid for access to these amenities as part of my booking fee, and to be denied them based on something as superficial as body art is not only unfair but also unacceptable. This experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth not only about the hotel but also about South Korea as a whole. I urge potential guests to reconsider staying at the Grand Mercure Ambassador Hotel until they rectify these discriminatory policies. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or inferior because of their appearance. Discrimination has no place in modern society, and it's high time that establishments like this hotel learn that lesson.

Furthermore, we want to reassure you that we do not discriminate against anybody, whether Korean or foreign guests. The use of sauna and swimming pool facilities is not denied to guests with tattoos, especially those with small tattoos. However, for guests with larger tattoos that may be deemed inappropriate or disruptive to other guests, we offer a solution. Our fitness team is trained to provide discreet assistance, such as using tape to cover tattoos when necessary, allowing all guests to enjoy our amenities comfortably. While our current tattoo policy may create the impression that access to the sauna and swimming pool is restricted for guests with tattoos, we want to clarify that this is not the case. We recognize that our existing policy may lack clarity, and we are dedicated to revising it to ensure better understanding among our guests. We encourage open communication with our fitness staff to address any concerns or find suitable solutions tailored to individual needs. Our dedicated team is here to assist and ensure that every guest enjoys their stay to the fullest extent possible, regardless of body art. The purpose of writing this review is to compliment this hotel staff for their wonder service. Thanks to staff for making it such a comfortable stay at the hotel. I was there for one night with my wife and a child for all these days I was attended with utmost warmth. I would like to compliment entire staff for being so professional especially Julia at front office. She has been very impressive in her service. And I would like to visit this hotel again for this outstanding experience.
